Cupcakes Everywhere

We have become slightly obsessed with cupcakes recently. So instead of studying we're searching the internet for amazing cupcakes, oh dear. Here are some of our favourites.

Cassis Newlands Round 2

So K and I were sitting on campus, debating whether or not to go into the library and search for a desk to work at. After a few minutes of discussion we found ourselves walking towards the car and suddenly we were on our way to Cassis. Yes, we've been there before but it's so conveniently located and so delicious! With all the exam and studying stress we've been slightly crazy lately, going to Cassis when we should be studying was not ideal. Yes, this happened:

"Part of me is like: WHAT ARE WE DOING, the other part is like: we're living the dream!"

K got coffee and I got a Coke Light while we waiting for our delicious tarts to make their way to our table. Today we ordered a Vanilla Strawberry Tart and a Volute Chocolat.

 Strawberry and Vanille deliciousness

The Vanilla Strawberry Tart was a bit hard to eat as the strawberries were huge and hard to cut with a little cake fork, it was totally worth it though. Amazing. The vanilla filling had real bits of vanilla inside. Yummy.
Chocolate overdose!

The Volute Chocolat had a ganache chocolate shell, it was filled with chocolate mousse and the centre had some creme brule. It was truly the most delicious thing we've tried in a while. So, if it wasn't clear enough the first time, we totally love Cassis :)

Queen of Tarts Observatory

 Queen of Tarts - Observatory

On Monday, K and I headed to Queen of Tarts in Observatory for some confectionary goodness. Queen of Tarts is situated in a beautiful old building on Lower Main Road in Observatory. Inside, the walls are filled with interesting little bits and pieces, very pretty. There's an inside seating area and a courtyard outside, behind the kitchen, which is so cute. We tried to sit outside but it was a bit too cold for us. The kitchen is this tiny little area; we couldn't believe they make all the deliciousness in there! Here are some of the photos we took, how pretty is this place?

We arrived at about 11am to find the breakfast menu far too irresistable, so we had to try that too! I tried to french toast with balsamic vinegar, pan-fried tomatos and camebert. It was so deliciously decadent. K had the balsamic onion and olive tart, which comes with a green salad. To die for!

The amazing French Toast. How good?
 And K's breakfast/lunch. Savoury Tart - yummy!

Of course we also had to order some dessert, because that's why we were there. We were so full that we ordered some to eat at home later while studying. We got two cupcakes, one vanilla and one chocolate, at only R14.50 each. Pretty good. We also got an almond and pear tart, for R24. Must say, we managed to both have breakfast, drinks and order these desserts for take-away all for under R200!
The Almond and Pear Tart - tasted even better than it looks :)

Where should we go next? Give us some suggestions! Until next time; send us some photos of the delicious things you're eating :)

Cassis Newlands

Recently, after a rather tough varsity handin, K and I headed down to Cassis in Newlands for some coffee (and to try some of their delicious things). We were more than pleasantly surprised by all the tarts, cakes and sweet treats we had to choose from. Yum! After looking at our options for what felt like forever, we made our selection: one lemon meringue and one chocolate tart. The choice was so hard, we had to share both! We sat down, ate our amazing tarts and we even had to order some macaroons to take home - they're impossible to resist. We found Newlands Cassis the perfect place to pop in to for delicious treats and good coffee. Here are some photos of our visit.
